The House Always Wins
Last week, Drew McIntyre made history in the main event by defeating Tristan Archer to win the wXw Unified World Championship. He’s back to face down the baddest man on the planet Keith Lee in the main event. But before we get there, we get an inspirational message from Consequences Creed. After a dramatic win over Chris Danger at Nitro 11, Creed declared he had to go in there and win the match for his dignity. But before he could reveal his plan for the future, Chris Danger attacked him with a shovel of all things. It seems like the issues between those two are far from over.
Our first match of the night sees Bandido take on Tyler Bate. This is Bandido’s second consecutive opening match and it’s a second consecutive impressive victory for the former Intercontinental Champ. On this occasion, he flipped out of the Tyler Driver and got the Big Strong Boy up on the top rope for an avalanche fallaway slam and the win. After the match, we learned Bandido will be taking on a mystery opponent in a #1 contender’s match for the World Championship next week!
Dakota Kai’s music hit and Ember Moon got her next challenger. Kai’s message to the fans was the standard one we’ve come to expect from her: Team Kick is the greatest thing in GAW and no one can touch her. We’ll see what Ember Moon has to say about that.
Shayna Baszler made waves by assaulting the world champion Kacy Catanzaro last week, now she’s back in her first match of the season to take on Rosita. This was Baszler’s true return to form as she dominated Rosita in the striking and ground game. Even after taking the match outside the ring, Rosita couldn’t get the upper hand. She made her final mistake by taking Baszler’s bait to get back in the ring; Baszler locked on the Kirufuda Clutch immediately and forced the tap.
Backstage, the Skymen were entering the arena preparing to make their first statements since losing the tag titles at Nitro 11, but they never got that far. The House of Black attacked and Aleister Black seemingly abducted Robbie Eagles, carrying him away from Ricochet as the camera cut to black.
It’s finally time for the main event as Keith Lee, GAW World Champion, battles Drew McIntyre, new wXw Unified Champion. The match is well worth a watch as McIntyre is forced to fight a much different style than what he employed against Tristan Archer last week. But Lee was up to the challenge, using his incredible speed and agility to stay one step ahead. McIntyre survived some of the most bone crunching offense you will ever see and even managed to hit a Future Shock DDT but it still wasn’t enough to put Lee down. The Scotsman went for his killshot: the Claymore; but that was the end of him on this night. Lee popped him up and hit the Spirit Bomb to win an incredible match.
Make sure you check back next Friday for Bandido’s mystery #1 contender’s match!
