HISTORY, MYSTERY, ABSOLUTE BLISTERY
Kacy Catanzaro, one of the most popular women in GAW, returns to action to open up Storm this week. She took on Shayna Baszler’s old training partner Marina Shafir and immediately took to the skies. The champ was flying around the joint at a pace Shafir couldn’t stop… at least not without help. As Catanzaro planned a springboard, Shayna Baszler ran out and pulled the top rope down, sending Catanzaro tumbling to the ground in a scary fall. Shafir was quick to react, throwing Catanzaro back into the ring and pinning her. But the champ was too resilient, kicking out and playing defense to open up an opportunity to blast Shafir with a massive springboard dropkick to win. After the match, Baszler had more to say but Catanzaro had had enough, chasing Baszler away from the ring and out of the building.
Tristan Archer returns to the fold for the first time since making history in the main event a couple weeks ago when he took on the House of Black’s Matt Riddle. Riddle was absolutely unstoppable in this contest, withstanding a Coup d’Etat and hitting a GTS/German Suplex combination to get the win.
After the match, we announced we will be making history in two weeks: Storm makes its India debut on June 24 with Storm:Mumbai. We’ll learn more about that show in the coming days but we do know Keith Lee will be fighting Bandido in the main event with the World Title on the line and we got to hear from the champ. Lee seems to have totally come to grips with following in Brock Lesnar’s footsteps and he’s ready to cement his legacy as champion.
Kofi Kingston returns to action to take on Pete Dunne. Much like Riddle, Kingston withstood an early flurry from Dunne before blasting him with a Trouble in Paradise to start his Season 3 off right.
In the main event, ZSJ & Ospreay defend their tag titles for the first time since winning them at Nitro. Mexico’s new ultimate villains, La Rebelion, answered the call. Humberto Carillo and Angel Garza, just weeks before they also challenge for the AAA tag titles, stepped into the ring with GAW’s top team. They turned in an impressive performance, keeping the champs on the back foot for most of the match by using frequent tags and some underhanded tactics. But that wasn’t enough to keep ZSJ & Ospreay down. The Aerial Assassin opened up space by hitting Carillo with a Liger Bomb while ZSJ blistered Garza with a running knee. Ospreay finished off the villainous La Rebelion with a Stormbreaker to retain. But their celebration was short-lived as War Machine came out to beat down the champs. Rowe and Hanson stood tall and it seems ZSJ & Ospreay have met even more dangerous opponents for Mumbai!
