Emporers, Kings and Champions in egypt
In our historic Egypt debut, Evolution goes absolutely nuts. We begin with Igris and Joshua Moore in a grudge match after Igris beat down Moore’s Second City training partner a few weeks ago. Moore started off hot and it seemed like he might have a chance… but Igris shut him down. Igris used Moore’s own The Way the Cards Lay finisher to get the job done in the ultimate show of disrespect.
During the show, we get interviews with both Eddie Hernandez and Kurt Andrews who will captain teams on the Rookie of the Year series beginning June 29. Both men talk about their reasons for being on the series and the rookies they’re looking forward to seeing. It’s worth going and checking out both interviews to see how excited the two veterans are about this groundbreaking series.
Hernandez hopes to enter the series still tag champion, but that’s a tough task as he and partner Yun Son Park take on the Titans with the titles on the line. The match featured four men who hate each other battling for the titles and it was as fun as that sounds. Dagonite was able to isolate Yun Son Park after a massive vertical suplex but when he went to tag in Lieter, the tag team legend was busy brawling with Hernandez on the outside. This allowed Dagonite to mash Park with three straight powerbombs in the ring. But the big man made a fatal mistake when he went for the fourth. Park rolled him up and stole a victory while Lieter and Hernandez could do nothing about it.
Jon Gotti and Nathan Rotunda, revealed as the Gotti Crime Family, make their official debut against Island Nation in a truly spectacular match. This is one match you have to see from this show. Rotunda was unstoppable, Island Nation is tough as nails, Gotti is as smart as anyone in the world, it was brilliant. Finally, Jon Gotti blistered Kobayashi with a knee strike as the bigger man charged in recklessly. Gotti finished him off with a huge diving knee drop for the GCF victory. Truly a fantastic match.
Yamamoto and Queen Alexia meet again after a draw at Nitro 11 in a 2/3 falls match. These are two women who know each other (and hate each other) so this match was contested accordingly. Moto grabbed the first fall with a Rainmaker and Alexia immediately responded. But when Alexia was finally able to land the Queen’s Crown, Yamamoto kicked out anyway. This was the end of Alexia in the match; Moto hit a second Rainmaker for the second fall and the victory. It will be the Japanese phenom who faces Lazzara for the title assuming the current champion can get past Sophia Sweetness. After the match, it seemed like Alexia was going to run back into the ring. But Igris came out to talk to her. After a second, Alexia followed Igris to the back…
Santanico has already defended his RAW title once against Flyboy, now he has to defend against Devon Andrews, still the world’s most dangerous free agent. Andrews attempted the same strategy that has worked for him so far this season, he tried to play rope-a-dope and tire out the champ. But Santanico was too fit and tough for that strategy to work. He was able to stop Andrews’ punching combination in the corner and hit the Deadman’s Lobotomy only for Andrews to kick out. Undeterred, Santanico hit the deadly Crimson Coronation to win and retain.
It’s finally time for the main event: Garrett Gibson defends the newly-renamed Apex Title against Derrick Cole. The match was everything we had hoped for: the incredibly strength of Gibson against the jaw-dropping athleticism of Cole. It’s definitely worth watching but the big story came at the end: Gibson hit Cole with his discus clothesline and the lights immediately went out. When they came back on, Lancelot was standing behind the champ with a baseball bat. He cracked his old rival twice and Cole blasted him with a Heisman Kick all behind the ref’s back. Cole pinned and stole the Apex Championship in an absolutely stunning turn of events.
