A VILLAINOUS DEBUT

It’s the final GAW show before Battle at Broadway and we didn’t even get five minutes in before we got some of the biggest news we could ever have expected. Will Ospreay had confronted Davey Richards in the ring, convinced that Richards had attacked him during his match in the main event last week. Richards denied it, of course. And it didn’t take long to learn the identity of the man who really did it. The lights went out and the Villain himself, Marty Scurll, strode out to the ring. In the next five minutes, Scurll used leverage over Ospreay to get himself a spot in the MLW Title match. He promised to also put the old WCPW Championship on the line. Scurll was the last champion of the original belt and it’s well-known that Ospreay has always wanted it. Ospreay agreed, driving a wedge between him and Richards who was incensed at Scurll including himself in the match. It was made official; three men, two titles, one champion at Battle at Broadway.

In the first match, Drew McIntyre battled Mark Coffey in a battle of European powerhouses. But on this occasion, McIntyre was just too much. He took Coffey out with a Future Shock and then locked him in the No True Scotsman. Coffey tapped in seconds. Later in the show, William Regal found McIntyre backstage. He extended an offer once again to the wXw champ and promised him a surprise opportunity to consolidate his dominance of Europe at Battle at Broadway.

Ember Moon takes on a returning Taya Valkyrie ahead of her champion vs champion match at Broadway. Moon survived several of Valkyrie’s biggest attacks and hit the Eclipse to win.

Matt Riddle has become one of the most dangerous men in GAW and, with his match against Chris Sabin less than a week away, he decided to show exactly how dangerous he is. He fought former IWGP Jr Heavyweight Champion Taiji Ishimori and he absolutely destroyed the Bone Soldier. He hit the GTS/German suplex combo he had used to beat Chris Harris last week but that wasn’t even enough. He followed that up with the most brutal knee of the season to a seated Ishimori, putting him to sleep instantly and winning the match for Riddle.

After a predictably ominous message from Adam Cole, WALTER returned to the ring for the third time in as many weeks to fight Roderick Strong, one of Cole’s old running mates. This was the best (and longest) match of the night. Though their styles are different, they’re both extremely effective. That is not to say that they didn’t try to deviate, WALTER even took to the skies, diving to the outside off the top rope in one of the most spectacular displays of the year. A Roddy Strong End of Heartache couldn’t put WALTER away and the Ring General took over. He locked Strong in a crossface and finished him off with a hellacious powerbomb.

After the match, though, the World Champ had the last word. Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly hit the ring and attacked WALTER in a brutal two-on-one assault. Cole himself finished it off, lowering the Boom on WALTER in his last act before putting his World Title on the line next week.

Battle at Broadway starts on Monday, October 3 so make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss it!
