It's Title Time Guv'Nor
Aleister Black has presided over one of the most meteoric rises of any group we’ve seen recently on Storm and his new Tag Team Champions began the show in the ring being congratulated by Black himself. But it didn’t take long before a couple of former champs came out to confront them. The Usos called out the House of being yet another team with little tag team experience and vowed to take the titles from Lashley and Nakamura. It seemed as though Black accepted on behalf of the champions.
In the first match of the night, PAC takes on Swerve Strickland in Strickland’s first GAW match. Strickland claims to be the GAW Cruiserweight Champion and even has the belt to prove it, though this match was not a recognized title match by GAW. Nevertheless, both men took this match incredibly seriously and both came within inches of winning the bout. PAC ascended the ropes and looked for the famed Black Arrow after the Brutalizer was ineffective; Swerve saw it coming and got his knees up. He followed that up with a JML Driver to win his debut.
Backstage, Conor McGregor talks with an unknown man about the future of the Proper 12 Locker Room and it seems the brash Irishman is getting ready to move.
Charlotte Flair returns to the ring against Io Shirai in a battle of former World Title challengers. Shirai tried to take to the skies but Flair kept her grounded and ultimately locked her in the Figure 8. But Flair added insult to injury by making Shirai pass out in the hold and then pinning her to win the match.
Marty Scurll comes out for a match after a short threat toward Will Ospreay where he promised to take everything away from the double champ. Eddie Edwards came out to fight the Villain. Scurll, despite all the smoke and mirrors, is a tremendous wrestler and he showed it by handling Edwards, a man even Will Ospreay struggled with. Scurll won the match with a butterfly slam.
After the match, WALTER came out to challenge Drew McIntyre to a match on the spot. Instead of the wXw champ, though, William Regal came out. After a brief war of words, Regal committed McIntyre to defending the championship in a steel cage at Winterfest.
Sonya Deville comes out for her first match as US Champion amid controversy. There are massive questions surrounding the circumstances of her win over Ember Moon last week. Bianca Belair, a former US Champ in her own right, tried to put all that behind her to get the job done. But Deville was up to her old tricks; rather, she attempted her old tricks. This time, though, the eagle-eyed referee caught Deville attempting to cheat and found an illegal foreign object in her glove. We can assume this was the reason behind her bizarre win over Moon to win the title. Deville lost by disqualification.
In the main event, Matt Riddle defends the Intercontinental Championship against old rival Timothy Thatcher. What stood out in this match was Riddle’s focus, he hardly took a moment off even when Thatcher tried to grind the match down. It was a great match between people who know each other inside and out but Matt Riddle is on another level. Riddle took Thatcher’s head off with a running knee to defend the title.
