The GAW Classic is underway
The GAW Classic returns for what promises to be yet another incredible tournament. Superstars from Drew McIntyre to Will Ospreay to Anthony Ogogo will be competing this season along with indie legend Amazing Red who makes his Classic debut against Will Ospreay in the opening match. Ospreay and Red have not shared the ring as many times as we would have expected but this matchup was as fast and dynamic as we could have hoped for. It was Ospreay, in the end, who won the match with his Chaos Project submission. Statistically, winning your first match goes a long way to securing a spot in the finals so Ospreay is getting the ideal start.
Last week, Swerve Strickland declared himself the Godfather of Cruiserweights. This week, cruiserweight legend Rich Swann called him out. It was announced the two of them will lock horns over Swerve’s stolen Cruiserweight title next week!
Lacey Evans faces down Bianca Belair in Evans’ GAW debut. Belair had a lot to prove against the debutant but Evans was up to every challenge. Belair’s strength wasn’t enough and Evans was able to drop her with her M9 punch to win. Sonya Deville tried to jump Evans after the bell but she fell to the M9 just like Belair.
In the main event, Bandido defends the IWGP Jr Heavyweight Title against Zach Sabre Jr. We’ve been waiting for Bandido to return to GAW with that title and this match was worth the wait. Bandido was able to out-pace ZSJ’s mat work, escaped several of the technician’s most dangerous submissions and won the marathon match with an Avalanche Fallaway Slam. Storm went off the air with a vicious attack on the World Champ as Gallus, fresh off being kicked out of the Black and Gold, attacked the champ backstage.
