A Main Event for the Ages

45 minutes of Storm to go before Nitro and it begins with Ricochet. It seems fitting in a way: Ricochet was one of the biggest names involved with the evil Alpha in Season 1, a Tag Team Champion in Season 2 and now he stands up on behalf of his friend Johnny Gargano. Ricochet listed the names of men he believed could be responsible for attacking Johnny a few weeks ago but he ended with Gallus. He accused the British thugs of attacking Gargano for revenge and announced he will be waiting in Seattle for the group.

Lacey Evans continues the US Title Barnstorm in the first match and it’s LA’s own Kaitlyn Dunlap. The former Rise champion was going for her first title on Storm but she found out, as all other women have, that Lacey Evans’ toughness can’t be beat. Evans dropped the Evolution vet with an M9 to win and retain.

Samoa Joe enters the arena formally for the first time in three years. Joe is a former World champion but now he has his sights on Intercontinental Champion Matt Riddle. Joe called Riddle out but he was confronted, instead, by his old rival Jay White. Joe wasn’t taking anything from White today, though. Joe attacked him, started a match and dominated White to win. After the contest, Joe choked him out with the Coquina Clutch and dropped him with the Muscle Buster to send a message to the House of Black.

In a special interview with former GAW World Champion DDP, we learned the four men joining Team UK captain Drew McIntyre for the Wrestling World Cup. Will Ospreay, Zach Sabre Jr, Kurt Andrews and Finn Balor make up possibly the most talented roster in the tournament.

It’s time for the main event and it is one of the biggest matches in GAW history. The captain of Team China meets the captain of Team American Samoa in a Wrestling World Cup preview. Lee Carr represented China, one of the fastest-growing wrestling markets in the world. For Samoa, it was Roma Anoa’i, a champion in WWE for the last two years. The fans went nuts watching these men throw down and it only got more excited when we realized the entire Wrestling World Cup would feature matchups like this. Roman avoided the Green Out at all opportunities and locked in the flying guillotine to win the final match of Storm Season 3.

But the show wasn’t over yet.

Will Ospreay came out and demanded William Regal come out to face him after Regal tried to make Ospreay back out of his match with Drew McIntyre. Regal did come out with a pitch for Ospreay. He offered for the MLW and WCPW champ to join Regal and McIntyre and claimed their union would be the greatest team in wrestling history. Regal went on about all the great things the three could do together but Ospreay was having none of it. Not only did he reaffirm his desire to fight McIntyre at Nitro, he demanded McIntyre also put his wXw Unified Title on the line, an offer the Scot himself accepted. Regal, realizing he was losing control of proceedings, made one last-ditch effort. He demanded Will Opsreay put both his titles on the line as well. In the final words of Season 3 before Nitro, Ospreay and McIntyre agreed to a winner-take-all match for the wXw, MLW, WCPW and GAW World Titles in the main event of Nitro 12.
