THE SERIES, THE TITLE, COMES DOWN TO THIS!
Stormbreaker enters this night down 2-1 in the series to Storm and, with the undefeated Brock Lesnar getting ready for the main event, they have almost no room for error. The show begins with US Champion Shayna Baszler coming out with Ronda Rousey as part of the White Company. It was their alliance that helped Storm take the series lead on Monday and it serves them well again as Baszler takes on rookie superstar Yamamoto. While it was an even battle, Moto couldn’t overcome the superior experience of Baszler and the outside interference of Rousey. Baszler sent Moto crashing to the ground with a middle rope gut wrench suplex to win and give Storm the 3-1 lead.
Needing a win, Derrick Cole- the man who started this entire war- stepped into the ring against Will Ospreay. You would think the two men were fighting for their lives as the blistering pace and vicious striking was unlike anything we’ve seen at Battlefield yet. But Cole came out on top, hitting Ospreay with an incredible elevated flatliner and a Cole Cut to keep Stormbreaker alive.
After the match, though, the extracurriculars got interesting. Cole and Diaz got into the ring to finish Ospreay off, trying to take their war with him and Storm full circle. But this time, Ospreay had backup. Zack Sabre Jr of all people ran to the ring and chased off Cole and Diaz and helped Ospreay to his feet. Later on, the two met backstage to hash out their differences: it was only a year ago the two faced off in a bloody submission match on Storm. But they bonded over their mutual issues with Conor McGregor and their mutual enemies in Stormbreaker.
Once again needing a win, Team Stormbreaker stepped into the ring against multiple former champions on Team Storm. The 8 man tag team match was dramatic, brutal and entertaining in equal measure and you should go watch it if you haven’t seen it. After rapid-fire eliminations (including Lee Carr getting eliminated by Drew McIntyre after a distraction by Sam Hunt) Yun-Son Park and Eddie Hernandez stood alone against Jay White, Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley. What followed was one of the most spectacular tag team displays we’ve seen as the two men, who have only teamed together twice in their careers, fought back from long odds and eliminated both White and McIntyre. Through underhanded tactics, Bobby Lashley knocked the ref down and lit up both Park and Hernandez with a chair. To add insult to injury, the ref believed Park had been involved in some of these actions and disqualified him, leaving Lashley alone with a battered and bloody Eddie Hernandez. But the Face of the Academy fought back, finally hitting the Speakeasy to get the win for Stormbreaker and tie the series up heading into the main event.
We get to that highly anticipated match now as Academy Champion Lancelot puts his title, the Nitro main event, the Challenger Briefcase Ladder Match and the series on the line against undefeated World Champion Brock Lesnar. The match, as expected, was maybe the two best wrestlers in the world going to war. Lancelot survived a dozen Germans and an F5 while Lesnar absorbed a Grand Chariot and several RTD attempts. Lancelot, realizing nothing was working, climbed the top rope and almost saw all his hopes melt away. Lesnar caught him on his shoulders and prepared for a thunderous F5… but Lancelot pulled off a miracle. He hit Lesnar with an RTD in mid air and followed it up with a massive EMP for the win. All at once Lancelot ended Lesnar’s undefeated streak, defended his title and won the series for Stormbreaker.
