A WILD NIGHT IF YOU DARE TO WATCH

We’ve been asking for weeks for our wrestlers’ favorite scary movies but we all know their worst nightmare is to lose on a night like this. We begin the spooky festivities with a match postponed from Battle at Broadway as Lazzara and Martina Del Sol team up to take on the rookies Ava and Isis. Isis is a long-time Underground powerhouse champion so the GAW veterans focused their attacks on the younger Ava who came dressed to impress on Halloween night. It was a back and forth affair from moment one with momentum switching on a dime and both teams coming split seconds from victory. But Del Sol proved to be the difference maker, hitting Isis with a Red Eye out of an attempted slam which paved the way for the vets to isolate Ava and pick up the win with a Lazzara choke slam. Del Sol and Isis got into some fisticuffs after the bell as well…

In the first of two title matches, Omega Woods put the RAW Title on the line against Ramon Gutierrez who earned his way in with back to back victories last Monday. The luchador showed fire and quickness in equal measure and he’s clearly improved leaps and bounds since last year… but Omega Woods was simply too good on this occasion. Woods overpowered the young man and finished him off with a brutal roundhouse kick to the head.

Derrick Cole goes for his first real measure of revenge against Jacob Ace in a street fight. Ace was the man who cost Cole his title but, even though all weapons were legal in the match, Cole preferred to dish out his punishment with his bare hands. Ace was not so sentimental and he went for a kendo stick, repeatedly cracking it over the head of the former champ; however, Ace did not expect the level of toughness and ferocity Cole came into this Halloween with. Primetime shook off five kendo stick shots as if they were mere pats on the head and bent Ace in half with a hellacious spear to win the day.

After the match, Rookie of the Year winner Takahashi came out to be honored for his triumph in the inaugural competition. But before the ceremony could truly start, a man calling himself Mr. Sinister came out with a mic. The man introduced himself and, in so many words, offered his “services” to Takahashi as the rookie embarks on his GAW journey. No one knows who this man is or what he may want, but it would be fair to question his motives with what we know now.

Halloween is about scares and there is nothing scarier than two of the most ruthless, most skilled men in the world going at each others’ throats in an anything-goes kind of match. That’s exactly what we got in our semi-main as MidNight looked for vengeance against Kendrick Gore. The bout was the longest of the night and featured weapons aplenty, including a stop sign to MidNight’s knee and Kendrick Gore’s back through a table. It was deep in the match when Gore got overconfident, taunting MidNight to his face before hitting the Sword of Discord. MidNight was a step quicker, booting Gore in the gut before mashing him with a deadly Sleepwalker. This, however, was when Lady Victoria made herself known, stopping the referee’s count and saving the match for Gore. MidNight tried to soldier on but he had given everything to hit that Sleepwalker; Gore did hit the Sword of Discord moments later. MidNight gave his last gasp of energy to kick out but Gore was undeterred, dropping him with a tombstone piledriver to win the day.

In the main event, Kurt Andrews defended the Apex Championship for the first time against sky-rocketing second year man Max Ultimate. Like his Ultimate Flight teammate, Max has improved by leaps and bounds since last year but today, it was his toughness that earned him the love and admiration of the New Orleans faithful. Ultimate didn’t get much offense in but he survived for 15 minutes everything Kurt Andrews had. While he tried to get little spurts in, Andrews’ experience and wherewithal was too high a barrier to overcome. Eventually, Ultimate had to succumb to the relentless pressure of the champ and Andrews finished him off with a Phoenix Splash to win. After the match, the fans in attendance booed Andrews out of the building and stood to give Ultimate a rousing ovation. But as the kid from Boston was thanking them, he was jumped by the evil Oliver Parker. Parker had clearly not forgotten about Ultimate elimination him in a #1 contenders battle royal and he came back with Ultimate’s trick on this trick-or-treat-night. He hit a spinning codebreaker and two Trueborns to leave Ultimate in a heap and leave us all with a bad taste in our mouths that even Halloween candy can’t clear.
