OSPREAY HAS SNAPPED
With just two weeks to go before Winterfest, the Usos are back out to try to earn themselves a tag title match. They have been the faces of the tag team division since GAW came to YouTube but now they find themselves in the unfamiliar position of chasing the titles in a gauntlet match. Their first opponents are the Lucha Brothers in a rematch of their epic rivalry from Season 1. This first bout lived up to their entire history. Jimmy Uso was the star as he was the legal man for most of this marathon of a match which featured some of the closest near-falls and most brutal shots we’ve seen in the tag team division this year. Jimmy even survived a Penta Fear Factor in a shocking moment before powerbombing Penta out of the ring and hitting an Uso splash on the legal Rey Fenix to get the win.
There was no rest for the former champs, though, as War Machine came out for the second leg of the gauntlet. While it seemed as though the Usos would be too tired to deal with War Machine’s brand of vicious offense, the brothers caught a second win in a tremendous display of tag wrestling. In a match half the length of their first bout, the Usos dominated the former champions and won with a another Jimmy Uso Uso Splash to earn their way to a Winterfest match with the House of Black.
After the match, Will Ospreay came out to the ring calling for Marty Scurll. In a passionate address, Ospreay promised he would not back down from Scurll and he would meet the Villain at Winterfest with both his titles on the line.
WALTER gets his tune-up for a cage match with Drew McIntyre as he steps in against Danny Burch. It’s the first time the two expert stretchers have met in over a decade and it didn’t take long for WALTER to notch the decisive win with a classic powerbomb.
It’s time for Storm’s second Challenger Briefcase Ladder Match qualifier; Davey Richards and Damian Martinez lock up for the chance to go to Winterfest. Richards controlled the match early, easily defending against Martinez’s heavy strikes and seemingly softening Martinez up for the dangerous ankle lock. But Martinez turned the entire contest around in one of the most fantastic displays we’ve seen in awhile. Martinez woke up suddenly and hit Richards with a Reckoning, South of Heaven and another Reckoning all back to back to get the win and punch his ticket to Winterfest.
In the main event, Marty Scurll steps in against tag team icon Chris Sabin. It’s been only half an hour since Will Ospreay promised Scurll would never get his championships. Scurll and Sabin had a great match as we might expect but the real story came at the conclusion. Scurll had just hit his trademark butterfly suplex and was going for the pin when Will Ospreay jumped the barricade and distracted the Villain. Scurll turned his back on Sabin who trapped him in a backslide to win the match. It was very uncharacteristic from the normally honorable Will Ospreay but he didn’t even stop there. He attacked Scurll after the match and trapped him in the Chaos Project after hitting a Stormbreaker to end the show.
