LESNAR AND LANCELOT FACE OFF
With just a few days to go before Battlefield we still have some matches to iron out! But we begin this show with Keith Lee battling Cody Rhodes in a Group A second round match. With a win, Lee can take commanding lead of the group and he did just that with a picture-perfect Spirit Bomb. Lee is one match away from a dream GAW Classic finals run.
Backstage, Will Ospreay reluctantly accepts his match with Derrick Cole, stating he didn’t want this war but he will step up to defend Storm from the attacks of the Academy.
Elsewhere, Shayna Baszler once again lays out her belief that Ronda Rousey will join the White Company because Ronda knows she’ll need friends behind her in this battle and going forward toward Nitro 11.
Jay White takes on Matt Riddle to try to join Jeff Hardy with a 2-0 record in Group B. It was a very back and forth affair as Riddle battled to capture the win but White’s devious mind ultimately won him the match. He took a top turnbuckle pad off but Riddle stopped White’s attack using the exposed metal. But a minute later, as Riddle looked to use White’s dirty trick against him, the referee got in front of the two seeing the attempted cheat. Riddle, who was carrying White on his shoulders, couldn’t hold out after a grueling match. His back gave out, White hit the Bladerunner and picked up the win.
In a press conference earlier in the day, Ronda Rousey basically brushed off Academy Women’s Champion Ballesca Pierce and didn’t seem to be worried about their match at Battlefield. Pierce, having seen the press conference, promised to tap Rousey out and help Stormbreaker win the series next week.
In our main event, Brock Lesnar once again defended the World Championship, this time against Zack Sabre Jr. ZSJ put up more of a fight than almost anyone expected, including catching Lesnar in a spectacular snap powerslam after Lesnar attempted a diving shoulder tackle. ZSJ tried several of his world-renowned submissions but Lesnar was up to the task every time. It led Sabre to trying his own top rope move but Lesnar was on top of that too. He caught ZSJ coming off the top and delivered one of the most vicious powerbombs we’ve ever seen into the bottom rope. He followed that up with his deadly triple powerbomb combination to retain the title in a great match.
Afterword, Paul Heyman took the mic and bragged about Lesnar and Storm’s “inevitable” victory at Battlefield. But this time, Lancelot had heard enough. The Academy champion entered and shouted down Heyman. He challenged Lesnar to the main event match at Battlefield and even offered to put his Academy Title on the line. Lesnar agreed and we have our main event for next Friday!
