RONDA ROUSEY
DEFENDS HER TITLE
The show begins with one of the biggest announcements in the history of General Admission Wrestling. GAW Battlefield, the first ever series between wrestlers from Storm and the Academy, starts January 17. The winner of the best of 7 series will have one of its matches main event Nitro 11 in March as well as see its wrestlers compete for the Challenger Briefcase in Season 3. Later in the show we learned, as part of the series, there will be an 8-man tag team match with both teams picked by the promotions.
Fresh off that major announcement, we see the return of one of the most popular wrestlers in the modern age: Jeff Hardy. The Charismatic Enigma returned as the final competitor in the GAW Classic as he took on Matt Riddle. With the fans solidly behind him, Hardy turned back the clock in a classic performance, hitting the Swanton Bomb to pick up his first singles win in GAW in three years.
Backstage, Ember Moon seemed convinced Ronda Rousey was going to turn to the White Company so she challenged the new champion to put her title on the line. Later in the show, Rousey accepted the challenge for the main event.
Bobby Lashley and Roderick Strong tore the house down in a match both men needed to win. Lashley has been embroiled in the war for a couple weeks while Strong attempts to build back from his loss to Bandido at Winterfest. The two came seconds away from a time limit draw, but a nasty thrust kick to the stomach from Lashley was finally enough to break Strong down. One stalling suplex and spear later and Lashley got the win.
Jay White and PAC finished up the first round of the GAW Classic with hard-hitting affair. PAC was ahead for most of the match but it was White’s intelligence that set him apart. He caught PAC coming too close with the dreaded Bladerunner to pick up the win and join Hardy at the top of Group B.
Meanwhile, Keith Lee confirms how tough of a year it’s been for him after having to dispatch his own tag team partner and best friend at Nitro 10 but that he’s now the best version of himself he’s ever been.
In the main event, Ronda Rousey makes her first defense of the World Title against Ember Moon who has challenged for the title once before when Dakota Kai was the champion. No women’s world champion in history has failed to make a defense but Rousey came dangerously close to breaking that streak when Moon hit the devastating Eclipse. Rousey became the first woman in GAW to kick out of the move which was the adrenaline boost she needed. She applied a rear naked choke, hit a nasty gutwrench and an armbar to lock up the win. After the match, Shayna Baszler came out to celebrate with Rousey, something that Rousey seemed to either not notice or not mind very much…
There will be more announcements and more developments concerning Battlefield on Stormbreaker on Monday so make sure you subscribe to see it all!
