COWBOYS, PUNSHIMENT AND TITLE MATCHES
Our plan was to fully recap the craziness of Storm: Mumbai and possibly hear from World Champion Keith Lee to start the show… but just before the show all those plans changed. Wrestling legend James Storm was announced as being part of a three-way match for Intercontinental Title #1 contendership that also included Suicide and former champion Moose. Storm completely took this match over, hitting Last Calls on both Suicide and Moose to get the win and become #1 contender.
After the match, Keith Lee does come out to address Taiji Ishimori’s attack on Bandido in Mumbai. We learn later in the show the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion will respond to Lee next week.
Backstage, Shayna Baszler has destroyed Kacy Catanzaro and has locked her in the Kirufuda Clutch.
Bianca Belair specifically requested a unique challenge on this show: a match against two local competitors at the same time. Belair proved just how dominant she is, dispatching the two local wrestlers with KODs for the win.
Backstage, War Machine claim they’ve beaten every tag team in GAW and there are no new challengers for them; Nick Grey pointed their attention to some new potential opponents.
In the ring, La Rebelion return for the first time since their title match against ZSJ & Ospreay. But their opponents grabbed all the headlines. Damian Martinez renewed his tag team with QT Marshall of all people, a team that was once called Gifted Punishment. Well they certainly are “gifted,” as Martinez ruined Carillo and Garza, setting up Marshall to win with an Anaconda Vice.
After the match, Ricochet comes back to demand Aleister Black face him. But before he could truly get started, the lights went out. We heard Black’s voice emanate through the arena promising he will give Ricochet a match at some point soon.
In the main event, Drew McIntyre puts the wXw Unified Title on the line against talented amateur wrestler Shelton Benjamin. Benjamin is a former Minnesota Gopher like Gable Steveson, the man McIntyre attacked in Mumbai. The challenger was motivated, he was a man on a mission, surviving three Future Shocks and a Claymore. But McIntyre proved to be just as tough, surviving two Paydirts and hitting a second Claymore to win and retain.
Next week, Consequences Creed will be in action against an opponent hand-picked by Chris Danger plus US champion Ember Moon will be in action!
