ALEISTER BLACK RETURNS!
We were promised a World Champion on this show and we got one… Aleister Black is back from his brutal match with WALTER at Afterparty! He opened the show, explaining that his personal mental growth was what allowed him to battle back from injuries in his title match. But before he could address what his future might hold, he was interrupted by an all-too-familiar face. Jay White strode down to the ring and confronted Black; it was a scene eerily reminiscent of the battles between Alpha and the Bladerunners. White challenged the Champ to a match in the main event, if White wins he gets a World Championship shot. Black accepted.
Our first match was a tag team clinic between two of the best in the world: the Young Bucks and the Guerillas of Destiny. We learned early on that the winner of the match would challenge the Usos for the Tag Team Titles next week. Both teams have challenged the Usos before but GoD are motivated to take their titles back. That motivation propelled them to victory with a Tonga Loa Gun Stun.
Not only will we see that Tag Title match next week, but it was announced after this contest that Bianca Belair will defend her US Title against Rosita.
Ronda Rousey agreed to face a mystery opponent this week and it was Ruby Riott who answered the challenge. After making the rounds elsewhere, Riott has brought her unique brand of offense to GAW and she gave Rousey some issues. But the Rowdy One proved how talented she is at her game, overpowering Riott and tapping her out with the dreaded armbar.
After the match, Rousey officially challenged Dakota Kai to a World Championship rematch, this time in a Last Woman Standing contest. Kai came out to accept but added her own stipulation: if Rousey doesn’t win the title, she must join Team Kick and follow Dakota Kai’s orders. That match will go down next week!
Our main event sees Aleister Black in action for the first time since his match with WALTER at Afterparty and it’s with an equally dangerous opponent in Jay White. But unlike Black’s previous battles with the Switchblade, he was entirely prepared this time to handle White alone. He withstood a Kiwi Krusher from the Switchblade, flipped his way out of a Bladerunner, hit a standing cutter and a Black Mass for the win. After the match, the champ extended his hand to a man who certainly does not deserve the kindness and Jay White repaid him with a kick below the belt. As White sauntered up the ramp in his arrogant fashion, Damian Martinez ran him down to exact revenge for last week. Martinez slammed White into the concrete with a South of Heaven and walked to the ring. A wounded Aleister Black offered his hand and the two shook hands out of respect. We ended the episode with a huge announcement: in addition to the three title matches next week, Aleister Black will team with Damian Martinez to take on Jay White and Drew McIntyre. That incredible show goes down Friday July 23!
