ANDREWS' REIGN IN DANGER?!
Even while Friday Night Storm prepares for Afterparty in two weeks, the Academy continues to put on big shows every week. This episode started with Academy Champion Kurt Andrews addressing the crowd. Andrews said even though pretty much everyone assumes he will beat Lars Nightfall in the main event, Nightfall is one of the most dangerous fighters in the company and Andrews would never assumed he’ll get the win here. Will we see a surprise later on?
Our first match of the night sees MidNight defend his RAW Title for the fifth time in two months. This time it was underground fighters Seth Woods and Mexican Shia to battle the man with the best record in GAW. Lancelot said before the match that he pulled some strings to get Shia into the match because he wanted to see the old Shia come back. Apparently this lit a fire under the Dragon of the South as he eliminated Seth Woods early to leave him and MidNight. What followed was absolute brutality that spilled all over the arena. Shia hit three Meet the Bosses outside, one of which nearly put MidNight out for good. But the champ was too strong, hitting two Sleepwalkers outside, rolling Shia back in and pinning him for the win. MidNight retains again.
Nick Grey got the opportunity to interview La Tortuga Roja and Roja showcased his trademark humility. The lucha legend said he understands people see him as an easy target which is why multiple people have made statements in matches against him; but Roja will not change his generous nature, he will continue to help anyone he can no matter what happens to him.
Andrew Wesley and Franky Omega continue their meteoric rise as a team when they took on Drummond & Danielson. Stefford Drummond was almost unbeatable in this one and it took both Wesley and Omega to try to slow him down. After Drummond spent over five minutes on top, he tagged in Danielson and that proved to be his downfall. Immediately Wesley and Omega got the upper hand on Danielson, hitting the pop up meteora and pinning him less than two minutes after he got in the match.
Backstage, Flyboy says he was done with everyone treating him as a funny Australian guy just here to make a living. He said it’s his time to do what he was destined to do and he addressed champion Kurt Andrews directly, saying he is out to kill.
Then we got to hear from Omega Woods in a terrifying video responding to Yun-Son Park. Woods says he had a family once but they went away like everyone does. What doesn’t go away, however, is passion and drive and Woods has both, so all he wants is to take it straight to the top and he’ll do that by putting Park down.
Our main event is finally here: Kurt Andrews defends his Academy Championship against Lars Nightfall. The match was fast and furious in equal measure as Andrews tried to counter Nightfall’s overwhelming power with his unbelievable athleticism. It was working as well, Andrews turned up the pace and looked poised to retain as he locked in the double underhooks for Eye of the Storm. But Nightfall was two strong and he countered that with a tombstone piledriver. The big man then looked like he was going to steal it as he lifted up the champ for the Nightmare but Andrews had it well scouted, spinning his way out of it into an arm drag. Andrews successfully hit the Eye of the Storm to retain in a great match.
But we weren’t done yet. Flyboy of all people ran into the ring to stare down the champ. It didn’t get physical this time but it certainly means Flyboy was not making it up when he said he had his eye on Kurt Andrews. What’s to come from this? Who knows?
Jason Parker announced Lancelot will be back in action next week when he takes on Franky Omega in the main event, we’ll also see Max Ultimate back in action so make sure you subscribe!
